COVID-19 Response

The pandemic affects everyone. As vaccines became available in January of 2021, Herald Christian Health Center (HCHC) recognized the inequitable access to the vaccine for the senior, and people who cannot register online or go to mega sites to get vaccinated due to language, technology and transportation barriers. As a small FQHC with a big heart, HCHC immediately set up a bilingual call center, and recruited over 100 volunteers to help people with registration over the phone. In partnership with 5 cities and 5 school districts, HCHC began to vaccinate seniors, school staff and residents in community centers, high schools and public parks, both in drive through and walk-up models. An average of 700-800 doses were administered on any vaccination day. Governor Newsom, Senator Rubio, County Supervisors and Mayors visited our vaccination sites and were amazed at our efficiency. The average wait time was about 20 minutes only for the dose to be administered on the patients’ arms. The oldest patient who completed her 2nd shot with us is 107 years old. In the past months, HCHC has administered over 39,000 doses of vaccines. We will continue to vaccinate children in schools. Together, we can overcome the pandemic.
